Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her after the town she grew up in. Michel Horowitz' father was an editor and writer along with Cynthia Palmer and her mother. Ryder is Jewish. Ryder believes that her father came from an ethnically Jewish background. She is the younger sister of Uria and half-siblings Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder as well as her entire family relocated to Mendocino, California in the year 2000, when Ryder was seven. Here, they did not have electricity. The books on television were the only way for Ryder to pass the time. Eventually, she became an avid reader. Ryder aged 12 was enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. Lucas was let go in 1986. Ryder, who was just 15 years old, was offered an acting job as a lead actress. Ryder was bullied at her high school. Her acting career, she hoped that it would aid her. Unfortunately that didn't come to happen. Still, she pursued her dream. Her big break was in 1988 when she appeared in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued playing characters that made a splash in various films. In 1993 she won an Oscar Prize to be awarded for The Age of Innocence.
